Alright so it's been a while but there hasn't been much going on except work and then more work so there are two things that are making my life just a little bit better.
1. Time at home with my wife, family and friends, doing little things like dinner and movies,
and (of course),
2. Spring Training, including fantasy baseball and the return of the Cardinals to TV.
So while I'm waiting for the season to open up here's a couple of movie reviews, and while I may be cherry picking a little bit on my movie choices it's my blog so deal with it. First up: as a belated Valentine's Day gift to my wife
"The Other Boleyn Girl" - Starring Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson, and Eric Bana with Kristin Scott Thomas, Directed by Justin Chadwick based on the book by Philippa Gregory. Alright well this wasn't one of my choices, obviously but we did go see it none the less. While I do like Natalie Portman the rest just isn't my cup of tea. While the dialogue was nothing to right home about and the acting wasn't all that great either, for some reason I kinda liked it. However, I may just be saying that because my wife is going to read this. In all seriousness the movie tries to follow the life of Ann Boleyn (Portman) and her sister Mary Boleyn (Johansson) in the court of Henry VIII. The historical accuracies are hidden in the peppering of quite a bit of fiction. The dialogue was well delivered, somewhat surprisingly from Bana and Johansson, (expected from Portman) but the script was less than expected and according to my wife, not even close to the book and the cinematography was ok but not all that special. Overall, it landed somewhere between a chore and eagerly awaited blockbuster. 3.5/5 Remotes
"Waitress" - Starring Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion, Cheryl Hines, Andy Griffith, and Adrienne Shelly with Jeremy Sisto and Eddie Jemison and written, directed by Adrienne Shelly. The tagline for this movie is "If only life were as easy as pie" and well besides making me hungry for pie the entire movie the film does well to inspire, and warm the heart. The plot, "Jenna (Russell) is a pregnant, unhappily married waitress in the deep south. She meets a newcomer to her town and falls into an unlikely relationship as a last attempt at happiness." is simple. However, this take is a good chance to enlighten the human experience and make you want to enjoy the simplicity and warmth of friendship and family. Russell's performance is stellar and her development throughout the movie is quite personal and she takes well to the audience. Jenna's road to happiness is not the usual trail which makes the story all the more compelling and warming, the movie reminds you that it's never to late to follow your dreams and to enjoy life to fullest. 4/5 Remotes
